On March 1st, 2010, my friend Walter and I set off on an adventure with my Arabian horse, Sojourner. I rode Soj across America and Walter drove our little truck (with no trailer). The trip began in Los Angeles, California and successfully ended in Bath, New Hampshire 8 months and 14 days later. It was a 3,700 mile ride.

We rode in celebration of family and as an outreach to those dealing with divorce-related depression.

This ride tells a tale of love in many forms - through the people we meet along the way, our connection with the horse, with the land, and with each other.

As this blog goes on it gets more and more in depth with tons of photos and experiences. Snuggle in with a cup of tea and read this like a book. I have switched the blog around so it reads start to finish so you don't have to read backward (except the first entry).

Here is our story...

Nearly in NY

10/22/10

I am in a pizzeria in New York right now. How crazy it is to be in NY! We have not actually ridden here yet though. We'll be here tomorrow. Sojourner is around the corner at Meadow Pond Farm in Little Meadows, PA. Meadow Pond is an absolutely beautiful boarding facility that offers lessons owned by a friendly and generous couple. We just popped over the border to look for some internet.

I have been away from the phone and any chance of internet for a few days now. We have had really bad to no service. Unfortunately I don't have a whole lot of time tonight with the computer either because this is a restaurant (not a cafe where I can sit and sip and think and type and think and sip some more). It's Friday night and they're turning tables...

I will have some pictures up for you soon. My dad and sister, Caiti, came out to visit us and just left a few hours ago. I can't express enough how hard it is to see them leave and know that we are now only a bit over 300 miles from them but still we have to so slowly plod along...and it's COLD!!!

There are so many t.v.'s in front of me right now...big flat screens...5 of them! They keep flashing in my peripheral vision.

I feel like I have been slipping a bit with the blog, but to tell the truth I am pretty tired at this point. The days are shorter and after tucking Soj in for the night there's usually enough time to have a little meal with our hosts and then I just want to crash and then get up and do it all again. I'm not complaining, apologizing really....I am going to try and be more diligent about getting on here though.

I will keep the blog going after we arrive home too. Then we will have more time to reflect and think and work on all of our videos to share with you.

But much more soon... (with pictures ;) )

  3. ...EVERY step that Soj makes with you on his back is another step toward Bath! The end is near...pull out that cross-country map and see the almost-a-horseshoe pattern that you have made across this great land! YOU'RE ALMOST THERE!

  4. Awesome! So close now!

I can definitely understand on the fewer blog updates. I'd just want to keep pushing to not give a single extra minute to the coming winter weather. Updates once a week for these last few weeks sure aren't going to hurt anything. Fill in the details when you get home.

This will be a Thanksgiving that you will never forget, that's for sure!!!

    Ride On!

  5. No need to apologize Linny... keeping us waiting makes the blog posts that much more special when they come.

It has gotten very cold- there's snow all over the mountain tops. There was a sprinkling on the lawn the other moring too. Bundle up and snuggle close! Sending strength and energy your way. See you soon!

  6. It was very hard to leave you and Walter and Soj. We wanted to stay and do the rest of the ride with you. When we got back to Hudson NY, we had a pizza at a pretty nice place in a pretty nice town. I was wondering how it all went that day and knew you two were back "out there" someplace. I left Cait and the van in Copake and headed north in the little Tracker, getting in around 2 a.m. after stopping a few times for catnaps. I will send pix or wait; your call. Some came out rather well, I think. Looking forward to seeing you again before long. Love that horse!! And you humans, too!
