On March 1st, 2010, my friend Walter and I set off on an adventure with my Arabian horse, Sojourner. I rode Soj across America and Walter drove our little truck (with no trailer). The trip began in Los Angeles, California and successfully ended in Bath, New Hampshire 8 months and 14 days later. It was a 3,700 mile ride.

We rode in celebration of family and as an outreach to those dealing with divorce-related depression.

This ride tells a tale of love in many forms - through the people we meet along the way, our connection with the horse, with the land, and with each other.

As this blog goes on it gets more and more in depth with tons of photos and experiences. Snuggle in with a cup of tea and read this like a book. I have switched the blog around so it reads start to finish so you don't have to read backward (except the first entry).

Here is our story...

Christmas a comin....

9/15/10

Everyone's big concern now for Sojourner, Walter, and I is the cold that we are most definitely going to ride into as we venture North. This means the end of the ride is on the horizon and that the time for baking, singing, dancing, and giving gifts is nearing!!

I just put a message out on my facebook page and I thought I should probably put one up here. I am going to start taking leather orders now for Christmas. I can't start working until the ride ends in November and I can only take so many orders in order to have them to you in time for you to nestle them under the Christmas tree. So it will be on a first come, first serve basis.

Here are just a few of the creations I have made for some leather loving, art craving, talent holding, trendsters in the past....

Horse tack:

These bags are saddle bags AND messenger bags. Unclip your strap and tie them to your saddle. After a nice day's ride, untie that bag, clip on your strap, and off you go!

Guitar Straps:
These are my biggest sellers. I have many, many more designs and pictures. Feel free to email me for more samples. Every piece of art is designed together with you until we come up with something that is from the heart and will add to your artistic expression while making music!

Phoenix Rising strap

Dave Rawlings in a custom "burnt tree" strap. Dave Rawlings and Gillian Welch have an incredible band called The Dave Rawling Machine.
Custom strap for Ellis Paul.

Julia Stone in custom "Opera Books" strap
This is my strap, me and my Poppy in Magnolia's. "Doodle" is the nickname my dad gave me when I was a little girl. Doodle is written on the tail of the strap.
The Tallest Man On Earth in a custom "Cowboy and Bluebirds" strap

Purses and Messenger Bags:

Cuffs:

If you have a favorite vintage piece or one old earring you just can't let go of (but you've lost the other!!), I can incorporate it into a one-of-a-kind leather cuff so you don't have to walk around with your hair behind one ear and down on the other side!
Belts:

Design by the dids, my sister.

Christmas Bells:

Key Chains (stocking stuffers!!!)

Journal Cover:

Many more samples are available for viewing on my facebook page. Please email me at linny@linnykenney.com to start designing your piece. I can take orders now for after Christmas as well, but before Christmas orders are first come, first serve so email me soon!

Dreaming of The Temptations, Nat King Cole, and baking cookies right along with you....

  1. Holy cow! The artistry of your work is amazing! I've known you for, oh... maybe 29 years and I must say, you've still got the ability to surprise me. Yes, I have a strap, and, yes, I know you have lots of others, but I just had no idea of the width and breadth of your leather work. It is all so exquisite. I just don't know what words to use here. Phenomenal.
