On March 1st, 2010, my friend Walter and I set off on an adventure with my Arabian horse, Sojourner. I rode Soj across America and Walter drove our little truck (with no trailer). The trip began in Los Angeles, California and successfully ended in Bath, New Hampshire 8 months and 14 days later. It was a 3,700 mile ride.

We rode in celebration of family and as an outreach to those dealing with divorce-related depression.

This ride tells a tale of love in many forms - through the people we meet along the way, our connection with the horse, with the land, and with each other.

As this blog goes on it gets more and more in depth with tons of photos and experiences. Snuggle in with a cup of tea and read this like a book. I have switched the blog around so it reads start to finish so you don't have to read backward (except the first entry).

Here is our story...

  1. Remember Tom, patience is a virtue. :)

Glad to hear that you were able to check in and the news when we get an update will be all the more exciting to receive. Besides, we need some interesting things to stay in the journal until we get to read them in the book!

  2. If you don't have your feed situation completely settled, here are a couple of feed stores in Snowflake. Might not hurt to go in, introduce yourself, and ask a few questions.

I did a little research on alfalfa/timothy cubes. This is alfalfa (legume)and timothy (grass) mixed at about 60/40, dried, cleaned of debris, and extruded into cubes (they look like Tootsie Rolls). They sell in 50 lb bags and are easy to transport.

If I had a perfect hay for Buster such as you have for Soj, and space in the Tacoma was at a premium, I would be OK with considering extending it by adding alfalfa/timothy cubes to the mix. It's the same idea as mixing his hay with what you receive from hosts along the way. The cubes are just convenient for traveling.

    Travel Safe!
