On March 1st, 2010, my friend Walter and I set off on an adventure with my Arabian horse, Sojourner. I rode Soj across America and Walter drove our little truck (with no trailer). The trip began in Los Angeles, California and successfully ended in Bath, New Hampshire 8 months and 14 days later. It was a 3,700 mile ride.

We rode in celebration of family and as an outreach to those dealing with divorce-related depression.

This ride tells a tale of love in many forms - through the people we meet along the way, our connection with the horse, with the land, and with each other.

As this blog goes on it gets more and more in depth with tons of photos and experiences. Snuggle in with a cup of tea and read this like a book. I have switched the blog around so it reads start to finish so you don't have to read backward (except the first entry).

Here is our story...

  1. Hi Linny,
Just wanted to let you know that Chris made it home safely, albeit a bit on the skinny side. He lost a lot of weight while in Thailand. He's being tested for Dengue fever, since his symptoms appear to follow that particular disease. In the mean time, I'm fattening him up with lots of chicken soup and TLC. He says he's feeling better all ready.
I've become addicted to your blog and settle in for a good read every morning or evening. Morning with a cup of coffee and evenings with a nice cabernet. I love how you share your thoughts and they have given me many opportunities to contemplate and explore my own opinions on your musings. Your adventure will certainly add to the fabric of your life as well as enrich those of us who are following you. I feel like I've met some great people thru you and its gratifying to know there are so many welcoming souls out there. Lots of angels along the trail.
    My love always,
    Nancy

  2. Linny:

Just wanted to say that I read about your story in the newspaper a few weeks ago, and thought it was fantastic. I enjoy reading your updates, and hope your trip continues to be a success. You sound like a very talented and driven person!

  3. I have been to 72 countries, lived with the poorest of the poor (who are the richest of the rich) but only now do I meet someone in USA that REALLY gets it. Linny, I was far too polite and kept so much inside that day we met. Life is so precious. So short. A cliche yes, but still true. I left the blue whales behind, entered the US with a bit of a heavy heart and drove by you and Sojourner at 80mph. I had to turn around. I had to. 20 years ago I walked away, I made the sacrifices that have to be made to truly walk my path. How few dare this? My respect and heart and prayers go out to you. I spend most of my life under the stars of Africa, Mexico. Asia, Costa Rica..It does something to the soul that most cannot see or understand. I felt you along that highway long before I saw you. I wake in the morning and still feel the resonance of your hand shake all the way up my arm. The colors still rest there in my palm..... And how could it not? You walking your true path..you so in your power. The bliss. The magic. Perfection! After my time with the Abo's of Australia, I cannot live any other way...but it is oft times a solitary road.. Oh how beautiful it is to meet another soul so connected, so in tune with nature... and with her truth.. Blessings to you always Linny.. Stay open!

  4. I forgot to mention earlier that the videos were, how shall I put it? Really good doesn't cut it. Maybe like being there in the truck following the Crown Vic through the dust. Just very cool. And how on earth did you get the video of you as a baby???

  5. From you, Daddy!! I have the old reels here. I think Mommy found them somewhere and that was on it. I saw it and almost died. It took all of my breath. I saw it right after Poppy died.
